- Not a valid solution for me

I live 5 miles north of town. The service outside my house is bad, but good enough to make and receive a call. Inside the house, the service falls just below the level of being usable. Data is out of the question inside and out.
I bought the zBoost, hoping to get my outside signal inside, that didn't happen. Like many other people that have reviewed this product, I found that the coverage area isn't 2,500sq/ft its more like 12.56636sq/ft. If my phone was within 2ft of the base station, I had full service and could make calls. Moving further than 6ft from the base station, I would be returned to 1 or none bars.
On the bright side, amazon is a rock star dealing with returns, and I still fully back them.
For sprint users, which I am a new one. I called and told them about my problem. I qualified as a premier member (pay more than $70 a month or be with sprint for 10+years qualifies you). They were extremely nice and provided a Airave V2 Femtocell tower. The Airave arrived, and after waiting for 2+hours for the unit to configure the mobile portion of the setup, I found I had full, 3g service, everywhere in my house. Any one who is a sprint subscriber, I strongly recommend you don't buy the zBoost and contact sprint about a Airave V2. It requires a high speed connection of 40k up and down, pretty easy bar to meet these days. I am 100% satisfied now, and have healthy, reliable service everywhere in my two story house.
If you're a security nut like myself, you can setup the Airave V2 as the DMZ host behind your router. Mine seems to work perfectly in this configuration. Now I don't have to worry about sprint monitoring my network traffic either, its a win win solution. - Can You Hear Me NOW!

I started with the cheap decal "signal boosters" you peel & stick to the inside of your cellphone. Then I got an add-on extendable antenna. Then I bit the hand grenade and shelled out the $300 for this booster. I have the antenna mounted in the highest peak of my attic, snaked the coax cord down through a corner of a closet, to the base in my office. It worked. The range is limited, about 25 feet, but I have cell service again. It's frustrating to have to build my own "cellphone tower" for AT&T, but thats about what it boils down to. - Range much less than promised

I was getting 1 to 2 bars in most of my house, no signal in the basement. On my roof I could get 4 to 5 bars so I thought this would be just what I needed to get reliable calls anywhere in the house. I mounted the antenna on the roof, ran the coax cable down to our kitchen (which is more or less centrally situated in the house. I then was able to get 4 to 5 bars in the kitchen (sometimes 2 or 3 if I was on the far side of the kitchen opposite the antenna, which is in one corner. In the rest of the house I see no improvement in the signal at all. I then ordered the upgrade antennas (xy-029 directional exterior, and xy-027 interior ) but saw no improvement at all. I returned the two upgrade antennas and am living with the original setup. At least I can make and receive calls in my kitchen. - Works Great!

I bought this because I live out in the country and cell signal is limited at best. In the house it was almost impossible to get a signal and make a call. We installed this and put the antenna on an outside 30 foot CB tower we no longer used. The receiver sits on a table in the house. We immediately got 4 or 5 bars depending on where you are in the house. Let me add I live in a very old farm house (150 yrs+) with 15 inch thick brick walls. This unit will pick up a cell call and keep it connected even if you are outside the house. We have Sprint as our carrier and have had no problem. I can also use it with my Kindle for downloading books. - Cell Phone Booster

This did not work in the second location used. If you don't get a signal outside the house, amplifying nothing still is nothing. In another location where we had an outside signal but the walls were concrete and steel (a former bank), the unit worked great. They give a 30 money back guarantee so it gives you time to try it.

Works excellent on 1 level...I had intermittent-to-no cell phone signal on my Verizon phone because of my location - near the city of Rochester (NY) but I have hills/valleys in my neighborhood, and the 1st floor is constructed of old cinder block. With the antenna on the 2nd floor in front, and the amplifier on the 1st floor near the back, the unit works great on the 1st floor. The unit doesn't seem to be as effective on multiple floors, but works great on the 1st floor....I'm very pleased with the improvement. - Flat out did not work for me

I set it up correctly, I wanted to believe... but it simply did not work for me. Maybe it will work for you but in my case it did nothing at all. I tested it in every way possible and I got zero benefits. I ended up getting a Microcell adapter once they became available and now I can actually use my iPhone in my house, yay. - So far, so good.

We live in an area that has good cell service but...home built into the side of a hill, metal roof, and metal siding. Ordered the unit and while it was coming looked up the manual on line to figure out the best installation. Installed the antenna and everything else, took me most of the day, and all is working great. The antenna is on the roof and the base unit is about as far away from it as you can get (on top of cabinets in open kitchen). I have a Verizon Droid and my wife has a Verizon Devour. My Droid has no issues, my wifes Devour still shows no bars after connecting but sounds absolutely fine, huge improvement in both. Great unit. - Great wifi booster!,

This does everything it says it will do! We have limited 3G access, and this booster enabled me to use my iPad with fast speeds. - Bill H in Louisiana

I have purchased and installed two of these units. The first one was in a steel building where I had 4 bars of signal on the outside and less than 2 bars on the inside. The unit improved my signal inside to 5 bars of signal. The second was in a home where the calls would break up and drop even though there was a signal showing on the phone. Now we have clear reception and transmission. We all use either Blackberrys or I-Phones.

- Easy set-up & it works!

I got this product months ago but had to wait until we moved to review it; our previous house had excellent cell coverage throughout. Our new house, however, is a split-level with the living room (where we do most of our, you know, living)on a lower level. Cell coverage down there is 1-2 bars with occasional dropped calls if you move around.
SET-UP: I was excited to finally try this booster out, but I was also a little apprehensive about set-up. To my relief, the instructions were well-explained and set-up was easy. There are 3 pieces in the box: The outside antenna, the desktop antenna, and the amplifier. The outside antenna (which is a plastic box that sits in a plastic cradle) has a variety of mounting options - including window mount. You have to attach the outside antenna to the amplifier with coax cable (they give you 50' of cable) so keep that in mind when choosing a place for the exterior mount. (And of course you also have to find the spot with the strongest existing signal.) We did have to fuss around a bit to find a spot where the exterior antenna got a strong signal and could be connected inside to the amplifier, which also has to be plugged in AND connected to the desktop antenna. Once we had that figured out though, actual set-up was super-fast and we had a green light in minutes.
HOW IT WORKS: We now have 5 bars everywhere in our Living Room (about 25' x 20'). That's the only place we needed a boost and the whole room is covered. I can't really address range because elsewhere in the house our coverage was already good.
BOTTOM LINE: You need 2 things to get your money's worth from this booster: 1- The ability to follow directions during set-up, including putting some thought into the unit placement, and 2- An existing cell signal somewhere withing 50ish feet. If you have those, and you need a signal boost, this baby does the trick. - If you do not want to go back to hard line phone

I canceled my ground phone service as many people did. However cell phone is a radio and it is unstable in some week signal areas. This Booster is alternative to Microcell of AT@T (which required Internet) and does not require any additional connections. It just boost your cell phone signal in limited area in radius at least 30 feet from antennas. Here what I did. I had no idea where is the cell phone transceiver tower so I found most powerful spot with maximum signal bars with my cell phone near window, mounted cradle antenna with logo sign facing window, mounted cable from this antenna across the room to amplifier, connected "on board" antenna (cable about 4feet with desktop antenna) to the amplifier and moved away from amplifier as far as possible facing logo on this antenna in opposite side to first one (back to back). I got green light immediately and 6-7 bars instead 2-3.
It works great if you are between antennas in direct sight. When I go to another room I have 3-4 bars and only one wall between cell phone and antennas.
So did it solve my problem - yes for 90% but still there was not stable sound when I talked on the phone but much clear though. Did it boost in 15 times - no.
It can help but not for 100%. So IMO the price should be adequate OR 100% result.
PS It worked with AT@T, cell Nokia 5800 - Does what it says. Read the directions.

This product works very well. I went from 1-2 bars to mostly 5 bars (pre iPhone update). Getting the outside and inside units far enough apart from each other (to avoid feedback) was tricky, but I was able to do it. - Outstanding product - does what it says

We have a cabin deep in the woods in Southern Indiana, where the only way to get more than one bar was to go up the hill or, as I found out, be standing on the (metal) roof. Inside the cabin, zero bars. I normally work from home and wanted a way to use my aircard on my laptop so I could, if needed, work from the cabin as well as get on business calls. I did a lot of research and this product seemed to fit the bill. I have an old UHF/VHF antenna tower next to the cabin, so I climbed up it, clamped the cradle and antenna facing the cell tower, dropped the line down, drilled a hole through the cabin wall, fished the provided 30' cable through, hooked it to the booster and antenna and turned it on - FOUR BARS throughout the 1200 sf cabin! The whole thing took less than one hour to set everything up. Crystal clear Verizon cell calls and could watch streaming video on my laptop with Verizon USB modem. I did an intial 'speed test' and here were my results: 2.0 Mb/s Download and 0.61 Mb/s Upload (to a server in Chicago for some reason). Great product - I highly recommend it! - very happy with this product

I read the reviews before I bought this product so I had an expectation that in my environment it would work correctly....and it did. It's important that you can find a signal sweet spot...most likely outside of your house...that is within 30 to 50 feet of the area where you want to boost your signal. For technical reasons you need a separation between where the receiving antenna is located and where you want to place the associated amplifier. I was told by the tech dept you can locate the receiving antenna further than 50 feet away but there is a cost signal wise that is about 7db...appox 1 bar on most phones... for each 100 feet. In my case the cable length needed to be 62 feet (I had to put a 12 foot extension on the 50 feet supplied) to allow my receiving antenna to be in the best sweet spot I could find on my property. The sweet spot was a location that was between -82db and -85db which is about 4 bars on most cell phones. The line of sight is about 30 feet away from my inside problem area but in order to run the cables I needed about 62 total feet of cable. The end result was that although my cable needed to be longer...the signal strength at my sweet spot was way more than enough to offset the extra cable length signal loss. The bottom line is I have a wonderful signal where I used to not be able to talk inside my house. I placed the inside amp box near where I previously had no signal. I recommend this product to those who have a sweet spot they want to "move" inside. If you do not have enough signal anywhere then do not buy this product. This product simply allows one to move the best signal to a new location...but that location has to be within a reasonable distance away. One more note...it is very important to take a lot of time to find the best sweet spot you can find. Most cell phones can be put in a mode where you can see the signal strength in decibels rather than bars....the lower the decibel number the better. You need to know that it takes most cell phones 15 seconds or more to update those numbers so finding the absolute best sweet spot is not always fast. Sometimes 1 foot movement can make a huge difference signal wise so take your time to locate where your receiving antenna should be mounted. Also it helps to know where your cell phone transmitting tower is and point the receiving antenna towards that tower. This might be a problem for some consumers to find but if you do know the direction of your cell phone company's tower you can fine tune signal reception in a fringe area. I suspect that if you find a sweet spot of 4 bars or more the actual location of the tower will not be a huge problem but it certainly will help. None of this is hard to do and it really makes a difference between getting a fantastic signal inside to just a marginal one. The 30 day guarantee is great for those who cannot make this product work in their location. Well worth the money.

- Review of 841262

I was disappointd with the product and returned it. Panel antenna was quirky. Despite following instructions related to antenna separation, etc. one of the RCA jacks was extremely hot. On the positive side the technical assistance provided by their staff was superior. - Cell Signal booster

The Wilson signal booster has improved our cell signal at our house. We do not get dropped cell phone calls any more and the internet through a cell card runs a little bit faster and does not drop like it use to. I definately recommend this product if you are having low signal problems with cell signal. I checked using the instructions from this site and my cell phone and confirmed the signal at my house is very weak. - Wilson Cellular Signal Booster

I found the unit relatively easy to install however it should be noted that trying to run the coax cable in finished living spaces somewhat a challenge. It is obvious that if you have an unfinished basement or an attic in which the cable could be run the installation would be easier. Also, the signal from the amplifier could be stronger. If the cell phone is more than 20-30 feet from the amplifier all benefits from the amplifier are lost. The booster did do what was advertised; it strengthened the signal sufficiently that we can now use our cell phones in the house where before we did not have a signal strong enough to maintain a call without it being dropped.
I would definitely recommend this product to anybody living in areas with fringe cellular coverage. - Wow

We live in a fairly large house (5,000 sq ft) with thick wooden walls, some steel beam construction in the house. Our family is on ATT with iphones, and found throughout the house, we typically had between 1-2 bars if we were lucky. About 1/7 calls would end up in a dropped call inside the house. Our kitchen and livingroom, as well as my office were 1 bar / dead zones. Fortunately for us, outside the house we would get 4-5 bars, or full service with the iphone. We were fed up having the exit the house sometimes to use our cell phones. We finally decided to try a signal booster, and used Amazon, to make sure it would work, and we know their rock solid return policy. Install was pretty easy, just 10 screws for all the units combined. We positioned our antenna on the roof where we would get 4-5 bars. We put our repeater in the basement pointing up from the center of the house, and the WHOLE HOUSE is covered by at least 4 bars, It will never even go into the 3 bar area. It is recommended in the directions to mount the repeater high, like on the 2nd floor and point it down, but it was too hard for us to run the wires. I bet if we installed it the way it was recommended we would get 5 bars in the whole house, but we only get 5 bars within 100 feet of the repeater box. Those dead zones in the kitchen, living room and office where making a phone call was something you just couldn't do, and now fully covered with 5 bars of 3G. Our 3G download speeds are hitting 7 megabit on speed tests now, thats as fast as our wifi can make the iphones go!
On a side note.
One of our family members uses T-mobile, and will at best get only 1 bar outside the house. The repeater will not make more bars than the service can provide, therefore, if you are getting 1-2 bars outside your house, I would not recommend even trying a $500 repeater, get a new service provider. She can only get 1-2 bars in the house, so it can't magically make bars, but it can help push the service through the walls without a problem.
Now if it were 1-2 bars on ATT on the cell phone outside the house, the antenna may be able to capture more bars, and provide more service inside the house. Maybe it is just because T-mobile service is so bad, that any antenna wouldn't help the cause.
Overall I am very pleased with this signal booster, and would recommend it to anyone who needs a boost inside their house. It will cover your whole house, and dropped calls or low signal will be a thing of the past. Thanks Wilson for making such a great professional product. I am thrilled that I don't have to go outside to make/receive calls anymore! - Wilson Electronics 841262 Dual Band Pro

- worked marginally

I was in an area with only 2 bars, and it had calls dropped constantly. Unfortunately in my area it barely worked, not enough to justify the cost. I Had it returned, with no issues. - Wilson Phone Signal Booster Model 801241

I live in a remote Mountain area in Southwest Montana where there is very weak cell phone service. The Wilson Model 801241 gave me full strength and used the cell phone as a modem for a laptop and got good speed fro internet.
I would recommend this to all - Wilson signal booster - don't leave home without it!

I work in sales and spend a lot of time in the car on the phone.
I purchased this device and subsequently did three long trips through throught rural New England (ME to NJ), Mid West (MO to SD) and Mid Atlantic (ME to SC) with it. In that time I only had one time that the signal was lost as opposed to every 20-30 minutes previously. So in the car it definitely does the job even in mountainous and remote terrain.
Some things to note:
- it made no measurable improvement when I tried to use it at home on both Verizon and Sprint phones. Not sure what the problem was?
- the item I ordered from Amazon did not include the travel bag shown in the pictures on the website. Wilson's customer service staff sent it promptly when I contacted them
- I would like to see some kind of gauge (even if it was LEDs) to indicate the signal strength. At the moment it is either green or red
Overall I consider this a great investment and am now considering the Wilson full house version. - Wilson Cell Phone Booster

Very disappointed in the product. For the price I thought it would be much better. I didn't get any better reception with the booster than I had without and having this ugly antenna stuck to my window to get reception was definitely not working for me. - Wilson provided the service that Verizon refused to.

Thank God for our new Wilson Electronics 801241 signal booster!!! I stuck it on a window and we can use our phones and internet indoors like real people!!! We have EVDO with 3 bars and 1xRtt with 2 bars. It was easy and fast to install. It works well for the frequency range that Verizon uses. It is portable and we will be able to use it in our travels anywhere we go.
With that said... I would like to disparage Verizon and their lack of commitment to customers. This was a solution that they should have provided to us at no charge years ago.
Verizon moved their cell tower after their merger Altel. Instantly our phones and air card would not work inside our home. Since early 2009 we went outside to make and receive phone calls. We sat outside to get internet access from Verizon too.
We kept getting false hope from Verizon representatives. New towers were going to be placed that might correct the problem, etc... There was a piece of equipment that they could sell us for $250.00 that would allow us to get reception at home. However it would only work if we purchased satellite internet access from Hughes. Since we were already paying Verizon $60.00/month for internet access that we could no longer received, it really did not make sense. It was really just more false hope.
Finally one tech support person told us the truth. They had moved the tower to accommodate a greater number of users and they had no intention of returning the service that we previously had provided. A technician had been sent out to our address and had been able to get reasonable reception from the highway and we were screwed. I was informed that our service agreement did not cover cell or air card service indoors. If we were expecting an incoming call we would have to go outside by the highway and wait for it. We were never offered any kind of discount for the extreme loss of service. I think I should file a complaint with the FCC.

- First one amp didn't work

The first amp I ordered didn't work the replacement works like a charm and does exactly what is is advertised to do.. love it.. - Great Product!!

This booster is a great addition to any vehicle that may be out and about in areas with spotty coverage. I've used it in areas where I had no to very weak signal and with the booster, had full service. In those situations, connecting can be difficult, but once connected, it will stay connected unless you drop into canyons. It's a very impressive product. - Works as advertised

This allows me to stay in phone contact in areas where the coverage without the external antenna and booster was spotty - Cell phone signal booster kit

This cell phone signal booster works very well in bring in the signal in areas where I have line drops or cannot make a call. - Another great product from Wilson

I work from my truck and work in many rural locations. After installing the booster areas that I have never had service in will have 5 or six bars in now. I have found that for the best reception, use a bluetooth and set the phone within a couple of inches from the antenna. I used velcro to attach to the front of my seat and set the phone on the seat. It makes it nice if I need to be outside my vehicle in a remote area and can still use the phone. At my hunting camp everyone wants to stand next to my truck so they can use their phones. None of us have any service without the booster. I no exactly where the spots are on I-65 without the antenna and never drop a call in those spots with the booster. I cant say enough about how well it works.

- No bars becomes lots of Bars

I mounted this on the end of a 10 foot plastic conduit pipe next to the chimney of my rambler style home. Prior to installing this Booster, I was lucky to get 1 bar in my home, now with the antenna 25 feet over my head I get up to five bars in the house, and 3-4 at the farthest point from the unit. I don't get 3G coverage, but I can use the home wireless for data while here. I had the t-mobile @home service with an UMA handset, but they aren't making any windows mobile smart phones with UMA, so I thought I'd take the chance get a HTC HD2 and this booster, very happy I can use the phone I want, with the provider I want thanks to this product. - Didn't work for me

I bought this unit based upon very detailed evaluations and instructions of P MSakamoto's review on this device. Unfortunately, I could not get it to function properly in my home, despite multiple positioning attempts of the base unit. We get one or two bars on our iPhones in the home and 2 or 3 on our roof. I returned the unit for a refund. - zboost 500

We ordered this item in the hopes that it would help us with our cell phones. It works great. Easy to install, just foolow the directions. If your having trouble with lost calls, fade in and out, or not even getting a siganl, try this little gizmo. It really works.
- Great When it Works...

I bought this because I moved into a house with aluminum siding. For those that don't know, aluminum siding pretty much blocks all cellphone, radio, and wireless signals--needless to say, my house is like living in a blackhole! I was thrilled when I stumbled upon this invention. The idea seemed simple enough, but the reviews were spotty and for the price I wasn't sure if I wanted a product and only kind of works.
When I received the booster it was really easy to assemble and in minutes I had reception and then lost it. The receiver has this fabulous little green light that indicates when you have a signal and turns red when you don't. I decided it was because the antenna was too low, so I went outside and mounted it on the side of the house, just over the door frame (before it was simply sitting on the porch railing). That seemed to improve reception, but every now and then I lose reception for no reason. It also doesn't broadcast to the back end of the house, which isn't a long distance and isn't through thick walls. I live in a house that is about 60 feet long and the booster sits in the middle room. The walls are only 4" thick and have little insulation, so I know they're not the culprit behind it not broadcasting very far.
Honestly, if it could even broadcast 30 feet from the receiver I would've given it 5 stars (dropping signal on a cellphone is a way of life, it can't be 100% contributed to the booster), but for over $100 and a promise of up to 2,500 sqft, you'd think it'd at least be able to reach the other end of a 30x60 ft ranch house. - Great booster... from 1 foot away!

I have an average of 1 to 2 bars inside my house but there were some dead spots and I wanted to improve my coverage. I found the strongest signal inside the house, set this thing up and it only worked from a foot away. I checked the manual and it said if the signal wasn't great that you would have a smaller radius of signal boost. Fair enough. So, I went into the back yard where I get up to 3 bars and again could only use the unit from 1 foot away. Finally, I temporarily attached the unit to the roofline, where my phone had 5 out of 6 bars. At 1 foot I got amazing coverage. At 2 feet I was back to what I was without it. The device is utterly useless unless you're within a dismally short range of it.

- Poor Shipping

Product was just what I thought but this seller said product was in stock, ordered next day shipping but product didn't ship for a week. - From one bar to six

I spent a few weeks checking into cellular amplifiers with a goal of bringing a better signal into the basement so that I could still take full advantage of the data speeds afforded by my 3G HTC Hero when tethered to my PC while I'm down there.
I ended up going with this particular model since the band frequencies matched my carrier (Alltel) and because it was a more powerful version of the cheaper desktop models.
I was pleased to discover that the kit did indeed have everything I needed to actually set it up, including two low loss coax cables, mounting brackets and screws. (the indoor cable is 20ft, the outdoor (thick cable) is 30ft. The amp goes in the middle, antennas on the ends.
The nearest Cell tower is about three to four miles away, thankfully it's direct line of sight except for a single tree which is higher than the roof.
I fixed the omnidirectional cable at the highest point of the roof, and then the indoor antenna in the room that I wanted the signal. I placed it about seven feet off the floor. With every cell phone powered off, I powered on the amp, the LEDs indicated the signal was good, and that I had placed the outdoor and indoor antennas far enough apart. Then I powered on my cell, and to my joy found a full six bars of service. Before it had been either zero or one bars. Data-wise, before the amp I was often kicked down to 1x which pulled less than 100kbps down (ugh!), but now with this amp I get EVDO RevA continuously which when tested shows that it is pulling almost 1.5mbps down and 256kbps up.
I had thought maybe I would need a Yagi directional antenna for a really strong signal, but decided not to order one until I could see how well the included outdoor Omnidirectional antenna performed. Thankfully, the Omni outdid my expectations.
The signal in the room with the indoor antenna is mega powerful, but is marginally less effective in other rooms of the basement. Upstairs it seems to give me just one extra bar, which is okay since I was already at 2-3 bars there.
All said and done, this amp does exactly what I wanted it to. I'm really happy with it, five stars. - Great amp

This bi-directional amplifier works great - quality product. Sprint service is lacking in my area. My wife has Sprint and I have Verizon through work. Both providers' signals come in great in the house now. Had to change the outside donor antenna to a directional yagi, then used the omni that came for the outside, as the inside antenna. The store shipped product on time and for a great price. Would do business with them again. - Finally, no call drops in my office

This was a very easy install and actually included everything I needed in the package - cables and all. Inside antenae is 22' from most used room and I have full bars. Am buying another for my barn. - Full bars inside

This product was easy to install and without a doubt solved the problem on no reception with AT&T inside my place of business. Now I have full bars.

- It works better than expected.

I mounted the antenna on top of a 30 foot pole. Inside the house I used to get no bars and sometimes just one bar but when I turned the unit on it went all the way to five bars. The only problem I had was a couple of times it didn't seem to work and unplugged it and plugged it back and it worked good again. I don't have 3G in my area but the Internet works good on E. - IT'S ALIVE!!!

I work in a large industrial building that has aluminum siding which prevents cell phone signals from getting inside. My formerly useless cell phone now has full bars!!! I haven't dropped a call or even had a weak signal since it was installed. FANTASTIC PRODUCT. - Works Good.

This has solved our problem of dropping calls in our home. The only problem that I had was getting the right connections from the base unit to the indoor antenna. I purchased it as a kit but it took over a week to get the right connectors and wire.

- Caution with Installation

Great product and we have tested others for less amplification power. In some cases installastion is tricky and although we might have 5 bars on cellular phones outside and installed antenna at that location, situation in the place is not the same and it might be necessary to install a better antenna on the outside or the inside.
Any way, first and notably most important thing is that wherever you install the outside antenna, you must cross check that you can make a cell phone call and that signal is good. This system as it comes does not make miracles. If you detect that outside signal is weak, then proceed to change outside antenna and install a directional one which might correct situation.
If inside you get a good signal but it covers a reduced place, you can try installing a better inside type of antenna and situation might get better. - Amazing! From 1/2 Bar to 5 Bars!

I purchased the zBoost yx610 directly from Amazon because of their return policy. Some of the other vendors were cheaper, but no real assurance that I could return the kit without an act of congress. Living in an area where I could only get 1/2 a bar...sometimes, I was skeptical.
The most common complaint by reviewers was the lack of instructions. I found that my only issue was identifying each piece that came in the package. Once that was done, the written instructions that came with the antenna were very clear. I found this site: [...]
It clearly labels each component in the kit.
This unit stated that it required professional installation. I chose to at least try it myself first, before paying for installation. From start to finish, this antenna and all its components were up and working in a little over 2 hours.
I live in East Tennessee, in a "hollar"...a mountain range on each side of the house. The nearest cell tower is at least 20 miles away...on the other side of the mountain. I got on the roof with my cell phone and found a place where I got 2 bars...and decided where the antenna mast (not included in the kit) would be placed. I used the pole from my old analog TV antenna.
I laid everything out on the living room floor so that I could better understand how the setup would look. The two outside antennas mounted easily (all the hardware was included) on a mast outside the house. If you use a metal pole, you must ground it. There is a grounding kit available on Amazon. I ran the cable (not included in this package) and then placed the base unit (white/orange part) in the attic. The shorter cable included in the kit goes from the base unit to the base antenna. The base antenna (white rectangle with short white cable) had to come into the house somewhere. I did not want this antenna hanging on the wall, so I drilled a hole in the ceiling...into the attic and mounted it on the ceiling (hardware is included for this also). The wire that shows was covered with plastic surface conduit. It now looks like a smoke detector.
I now have 5 bars throughout the house! So here are a couple of notes to consider:
1. If you don't buy your cable through Amazon, remember to get RG-6 coax cable. RG-6 is also referred to as satellite cable. RG-5 is for cable TV and will significantly reduce the signal from your antenna. I got mine at Radio Shack.
2. Purchase enough cable to make the run from the yagi antenna outside, to the base unit inside. No breaks or splices. Lay any extra cable loosely in the attic. I coiled mine up and secured it with a wire tie and my signal dropped by 2 bars!
3. Be mindful of the vertical distance between the outdoor antenna and the inside base unit. You must have at least a 15 feet vertical drop. If they are too close, the base unit will indicate with a flashing red light.
4. There must be 4 to 5 feet between the base unit and the base unit antenna. My base unit is in the attic, five feet from the hole I drilled in the ceiling and the base unit antenna is mounted on the ceiling in my living room.
5. Read ALL the instructions before starting!
6. I am a 54 year-old grandmother! Don't say you can't do it! I bet you can!!
As for the cost...by shutting off my other phone service, I expect it will pay for itself in less than 5 months. - Dual band Cellphone signal booster (YAGI Antenna)

If you follow the directions this thing is great. I live on the fringe of the world and this antenna pulls in the signal. - Worked well in a large metal building

Absolutely great. I work inside a metal building with no cell phone reception.
Installed easily with one antenna outside. Had to buy the right length
of coax cable of course to allow that. Now I get 4 or 5 bars
of signal strength. My colleague & I now get great reception.
A little expensive, but performance is great. - Not so hot...

I held out high hopes for this device after reading some of the reviews. I get a very weak signal in my apartment and often drop calls. I have to go out on the balcony to get decent reception. After deciphering the unintelligible directions (come on folks, add a few pictures!!), I found that it did little to boost the signal I received in the apartment. Certainly not worth $500 to get a slight improvement and still drop calls. I'm trying to send it back to Computer Brain, but their return policy is not easy and they charge a re-stocking fee.
